Limavady United came away from Inver Park with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Larne on Tuesday night, a result that further underlines how tough the Roesiders have become to beat on the road.
The visitors started on the front foot and looked dangerous on the counter. Lewis Tosh tested Rohan Ferguson with an effort from distance, and Alfie Gaston whipped a ball across the face of goal that just evaded everyone. Larne gradually found their rhythm, with Ronan Doherty, Jordan McEneff and Dylan Sloan all having attempts, but Marty Gallagher was rarely troubled before the break.
The home side thought they had broken the deadlock when Paul O’Neill turned in after Gallagher had made a fine save to deny Conor McKendry, but the flag went up for offside.
The Roesiders made their own breakthrough on 72 minutes. Dan Bent was caught in possession inside his own area, and Ronan Wilson pounced, cutting inside before sliding the ball beyond Ferguson to put Limavady in front.
Larne responded and levelled nine minutes from time. McKendry did well to reach the byline and deliver a superb cross, and defender Aaron Donnelly swept it home on the half-volley at the back post. The hosts pushed for a winner, with Matthew Ridley heading wide and O’Neill firing over with the final kick of the game, but Limavady held firm.
Gallagher, Philip Lowry and Wilson all went into the book late on. Mark Dillon was the referee.
