Limavady United left Taylors Avenue with a point they had little right to expect, as a late own goal from Carrick Rangers captain Joe Crowe rescued a 1-1 draw in the Premiership.
The hosts made the brighter start and had a big early chance when confusion in the Limavady back line sent Paul Heatley clear, only for the forward to drag his shot high and wide. He made amends in the 26th minute. Pouncing on a mistake near the Limavady box, Heatley raced away down the right and fired into the top corner beyond Martin Gallagher.
Carrick kept up the pressure, with Adam Lecky heading over from a Benjamin Buchanan-Rolleston corner before the break and then seeing a second-half effort run across goal with Heatley unable to get a touch as it skipped wide in the wind.
Limavady grew into the contest after the restart. Substitute Oisin Duffy had a shot saved and Jamie McGonigle sent the rebound over the bar. At the other end, Carrick thought they had a second when Crowe found the net from a corner, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Gallagher, and the Limavady keeper later produced an excellent stop to deny Daniel Gibson after Heatley had squared the ball across.
That proved decisive. In the second minute of added time Crowe blocked a Limavady effort on the goal-line, but his attempted clearance ended up in his own net, and the Roesiders had a draw.
Evan Boyce was the referee. Limavady are next in action away to Larne on Tuesday 27 October, before a home game against Crusaders on 31 October. Watch the highlights above, and see the Match Centre for the latest fixtures, results and league table.
